Fashion party responsible from textiles

From recycled or processed fabrics and yarns, to the certifications of organic products, through the ingredient branding, for innovative technological processes, education, training and communication manager: the interview FashionUnited has made Giusy Bettoni, Founder and CEO of Class platform, which stands for Creativity lifestyle and sustainable synergy, deals with many aspects of sustainable and responsible fashion.
Bettoni, has devoted many years to the promotion and communication of a clear message linked to an innovative production manager in the textile field, fashion, home and lifestyle, in 2007 launched Class, an organization designed to combine business with innovation responsible for providing a library of tissues and performing and beautiful yarns. Also recently, the company, through C.l.a.s.s Education, has developed a series of training courses for professionals and students. What does sustainability in fashion?
It means using fabric, yarn and materials that are united by these three characteristics: beauty, performance and accountability. The materials that we propose to fashion brands and designers in our library have these characteristics. I must say that for us a material enters the library only if it is beautiful and innovative. And 'totally changed, in recent years, the approach both by consumers, both from the manufacturer. Sustainable leaders are no longer represented by the t-shirt or shapeless garments made of organic cotton. Responsible fashion to be worn every day, beautiful and comfortable.

But what has changed in the fashion industry in terms of sustainability? And by the customer?
Now the industry is traceable, we have criteria for analyzing the quality of a head that are not what they used to be. In addition, the biopolymer technology offers the best of natural material with a high technology. Add to that the fact that the textile is a large economic resource. From the consumer's attention is growing in going to see what she is wearing, ie the ingredient branding. Of course, this does not mean that all have become experts of yarn, a bit 'as those who are interested in food should become chef for strength.
The fabrics and fibers you propose where they came from and who are the companies that come to you in search of materials obtained from sustainable processes and technologies?
We currently have a selection of about twenty companies, 90-95 percent are Italian, Japanese remaining. Every six months we renew the proposals. As for the companies that come to us to look for fabrics and materials, I must say I have a transversal positioning, ranging from LVMH to Vf Corporatiion. We also work to fairs like Premiere Vision, who ask us a help to the appearance of responsible communication.
What is meant by sustainable fibers and yarns and how much they cost these materials?
To give just a few examples I can cite a company of Biella that uses scraps of cotton coming from the textile industry of Bangladesh saving 80 percent of water. In this case the fibers are totally transformed through an innovative process of spinning. The price of a yarn of this type is in line with a high quality product. There are many Italian companies that are leading the way in this area but do not communicate because they think it is an important thing. In addition, communicating that a product is sustainable is different from communicating only fashion.(short formal dresses)
But by the fashion houses you will notice an increase in sensitivity?
Yes, now there is a high level of interest. The big industry are beginning to understand that these fibers are of high standard and you can create quality collections. With our workshops and courses we want to open the doors to the industry that operates behind these materials
To cater your courses and who are the teachers?
Both students coming out of training programs dedicated to fashion and the University, both to the industry. For the moment as a teacher it's me and James Mendoliache is a fashion industry professionals and also teaches at the Parsons School of Design in New York.
What is the goal of the study days and workshops?

We wish to share knowledge, introducing ideas and presenting eco smart solutions for professionals in the fashion industry. The program offers a wide range of activities, an insight into the textile chain, the opportunity to have direct contact with the materials, luxury fashion tour and interactive eco-fashion workshops.
